Summer Shopping: Tips for Maximizing Your Savings

For those of you who like to prepare your seasonal wardrobes in advance, you’ll be happy to know that there is a money-saving strategy that will help you accomplish that goal. The summer months are actually the best time to buy summer clothing… for the following year. You can often find great deals on swimwear, sandals, sunglasses, and more. But the question remains–how exactly do you know when to buy these items to in order to get the best price?

The short answer is August.

Generally, there are two popular times of the year to purchase swimwear. The first is near the end of the winter season in anticipation of spring break. While the selection is often quite substantial, the downside is that good sales are a rare find during this time of the year. If you have the patience to wait until the end of summer when August comes around, you will likely save a huge amount on swimsuits and separates.

As the summer season comes to a close, many stores must clear out their stock to get ready for the fall and winter merchandise by reducing prices. The selection will likely be smaller in August because everyone’s had their chance to pick through everything. But the deals and low prices make the experience well worth the wait.

Footwear is an essential part of any wardrobe. In summer, sandals are a practical and fashionable way to complement an outfit. Similar to the swimwear trend, you’ll find the best deal on sandals towards the end of summer in July and August. Again, this is going to be for the next summer since Fall is steadily approaching. But at least you’ll have very well priced items when the warm weather returns.

Sunglasses are a classic accessory whether it’s summer, winter, spring, or fall. Depending on where you live, you may find that you actually need sunglasses all year. And while you can certainly find them year-round, the best time to purchase sunglasses is generally towards the end of summer. If you’re not necessarily attached to a particular name brand, consider lower end independent companies. There are many popular online retailers that sell inexpensive pairs all year.

The key to having a positive and productive shopping experience one year in advance is to pick pieces that are simple, timeless, and versatile enough to complement your aesthetic.

Get creative with what’s available on the shelves if there aren’t many options available. When it comes to swimwear, sometimes your best bet is to choose separates. Remember, you still have the option to shop online!

Bottom line: you can save yourself a lot of money and stress next summer by planning ahead.
